Have I Been

                                                                                                                          by Ron Hawkins

Sailors, a soldier,

Farmer and settler,

Pirate and priest,

Killer and lover,

Have I been.

A native tied to the land,

A woman nursing patients,

A husband faithful and true,

and one not so,

Have I been.

Christian and Druid,

A lover of Nature,

Agnostic and atheist,

and somewhere in between

Have I been.

A father and a child,

A brother and daughter,

My joy my wife and children,

And even alone.

Have I been.

In the early mists of time I was formed,

and again, and again, and again...

Some things have I seen, even now

Others tell me of the truth they know

as they knew me when...

Some would say that I was young

Others that my soul is old

and still others who won't say

Afraid of the ridicule and the laughter.

Nor can I say, not yet.

I've seen you and loved you,

Hated and fought you,

Held and caressed you,

Danced and walked with you,

Shared my trek with you.

I look beyond and see wonders,

I see here and touch beauty,

I look there and have shed blood,

and mine own has also flowed,

Puddled on stone, and altar.

I span the ages,

Time holds me not.

It is space I cross,

Dimensions I slip through,

as a Traveler must.

And if I must do this

Across Eternity's span,

Then so must you, my Friend,

To touch the Flame

Shining afar.

Have we met, my Friend,

On our Journey's chase?

Sit with me awhile,

Rest in this place.

For soon enough must we continue on.

Gather strength for your search,

The Path we all seek,

Known or not,

Love is our Goal,

and Oneness our creed.

So speak softly, my Friend,

Sigh through the branches,

Kiss me gently in love,

Take with you my blessing,

Let me sleep, in Peace.

What are your thoughts?
