It was a horrible accident that left Stan's face ashen. He only hoped that he could minimize the damage. "You're welcome, I hope you enjoy the chocolates. I have something else I'll give to you when I see you this weekend. But I really have to go, right now." "Is anything the matter?" "Nothing major, I'll explain later." There was panic in his voice that made his fiancé question whether he was being truthful. He clicked down the receiver, grabbed his keys, and bolted for the door. He drove the five blocks to the house but what would he do once he arrived? Perhaps he would luck out and the package would be on the porch. Stan would steal it, and replace it with another later the same day. |

He parked the car on the street a few houses away and walked up the
flower lined sidewalk toward the old Victorian porch with great caution.
He was hoping not to be seen by anyone inside. He looked about the
flower pots and wicker furniture. Stan's heart skipped a beat as he
heard the deadbolt on the door unlatch.
"Why??? Heeelllllooo there Stanley. It's nice to see you this evening. Is there something I can do for you?" The broad smile of his former sixth grade teacher beamed at him. She adjusted her gray hair with was done up in a bun. A hand then swept over the long pleated dress smoothing the folds. She invited him in and they sat on the large sofa in the darkened living room. Stan forced a tight smile. "I was just... just driving by and thought I would stop by to say hello and congratulate you personally on your retirement. I... ugh... I have ordered something off of the internet and had it sent to you. I was just wondering if you might have received it yet?" Maybe there was still time he hoped. |

"Yes and thank you so much. I've never received such a nice
present. I usually get just paper weights, stationary, or chocolates. It
was wonderfully thoughtful of you. After all these years too. I knew
there was something special about you, even back then."
Stan's heart dropped into his stomach and he just slowly nodded his head as she took his hand. He tried to mutter a reply when she stopped him. "Stan, what if I told you that I was wearing them right now, would that surprise you?" Stan shook with nervousness. At that moment, Miss Graviss began to laugh heartily and tears began to stream down her care worn face. "Oh thank you Stan, that package has brought me more joy and laughter than I've had in so many years. When I opened it, I knew there must have been a mistake but I couldn't resist the temptation. So you intended the crotchless panties for who...?" |
